From the Vault:
Whyart.org proudly presents What color is the sky in your world? paintings from Colleen Butler of Laughing Gravy Studios. This will be a solo show for the artist at the North Tahoe Art Center for the month of October 2000. In the world of Colleen Butler, the sky transforms as her art helps her replace memories of struggle with introspective beauty.
Her compositions allow viewers to laugh at life's circumstances and say I remember a day when I felt like that. Her current series explores personal narratives in compositions which are bold in both color and content. Though her work is not easily classified, perhaps the closest category might be termed Psychological Neo-Symbolism, where in her case juxtaposition of unrelated objects or symbols create a meaningful and often surprising dialogue.
Colleen's exhibition of paintings will be at the North Tahoe Art Center October 6th through the 29th. Gallery hours are Wednesday through Sunday, 11 am. to 4 pm. Colleen invites you to join her and special guests for the opening reception Friday, October 6th from 5 pm. to 7 pm. (A webcast can be viewed @ www.whyart.org.) Jazz music will be provided by Naill McGuiness & Bob Greenwood and hors dÕoeuvres by Stony Ridge Café.
